Mediation Allows Both Sides to be Heard
Whether I am mediating a lawsuit or a dispute between two neighborhood groups, the most important skill I bring to the table is my ability to listen and discern what the problem is and what the disputing parties really want.
Often people just want to be heard. They feel they were wronged and they want the other party to apologize and formally acknowledge their mistake. Most often, the parties' differences are not as extensive as first thought. As a mediator, I work to build consensus and help the parties find a resolution that benefits everybody involved.
